According to my calendar, today is the Buddhist festival of Wesak, the celebration of the Buddha’s day of enlightenment. Happy Wesak, everyone.
What’s interesting is that, in some tellings of the legend of Wesak, the Buddha and the Christ appear on Earth and work together for the spiritual benefit of Humanity:
Year after year He comes back in blessing; year after year, He and His great brother, The Christ, work in the closest cooperation for the spiritual benefit of humanity. In these two great Sons of God have been focussed two aspects of divine life, and They act together as Custodians of the highest type of spiritual force to which our humanity can respond. Through The Buddha, the wisdom of God is poured forth. Through The Christ, the love of God is manifested in humanity, and it is this wisdom and love which pour forth upon humanity each Wesak full moon.
Regardless of your belief in the Cosmic Truth of this legend, you gotta kinda like a festival that asserts the cooperation of the Buddha and the Christ. In this holy week for us Christians, cooperation between our faith and other traditions is a nice thing to promote.
Given the state of the world today, I’d say, it is an essential thing to promote.
