Detachment

O Master,
Tell me how to find
Detachment, wisdom, and freedom!

Child,
If you wish to be free,
Shun the poison of the senses.

Seek the nectar of truth,
Of love and forgiveness,
Simplicity and happiness.

-Ashtavakra Gita 1:1-2

As kusa grass, wrongly grasped,
Only cuts one’s hand,
So the ascetic life, wrongly taken up,
Drags one down to hell.

– “Connected Discourses of the Buddha”

Yes, Grasshopper. I have two pulls in opposite directions. The desire to cut stuff out, simplify, and detach on the one hand and a healthy fear of the egoistic dangers of asceticism on the other. Love is simple but not stingy. Everything in moderation, especially moderation.

So how can I stay completely away from blogging? All work and no blog makes Cody feel sort of disconnected.
